Welcome to Sixth Form
Open Day
Interested in joining our Sixth Form? Our next Open Day is Tuesday 13th January 2026 from 5:00pm - 7:30pm
Hitchin Boys’ School Sixth Form is a thriving, highly aspirational centre of excellence. We offer a first class academic learning environment and pride ourselves on offering a broad and challenging curriculum designed to prepare young men for success in top universities, apprenticeships and fulfilling careers.
Our commitment to academic rigour is consistently demonstrated by impressive examination results. A third of all A-Level grades achieved by HBS students are A* or A; two thirds are A*–B. Virtually all students secure places at their first or insurance choice universities, including Oxbridge and top Russell Group institutions.
Beyond academics, we place a strong emphasis on character development and community engagement, underpinned by our core value that a Hitchin Boy will be ‘Strong and True’, meaning they will be building lives of purpose, impact, and service. Many of our Sixth Formers participate in the GROW programme, a powerful partnership with local charity PHASE. Students are trained to deliver sessions to younger children in local primary schools, helping them manage their emotions and deal with issues like rejection, disappointment, and changing friendships.
Our students actively lead fundraising efforts, including the annual Christmas Food Bank Appeal. Sixth Formers contribute to the school community by serving as Ambassadors, supporting younger year groups, and filling roles in the Senior Prefect Team and historic House system.
Our dedicated Sixth Form community, comprising over 300 students, is renowned for its outstanding pastoral care and diverse enrichment opportunities, which further build character and skills. Students participate in sessions covering vital lifelong skills such as strengthening mental health, budgeting, writing CVs, and managing debt. Our Enrichment opportunities include the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, Debating Society and the Mental Health Ambassadors programme. We are an all-inclusive Sixth Form; those of different faiths, ethnic backgrounds, orientations and political beliefs are welcome here.
