Extra Curricular, Trips & Activities
At Hitchin Boys’ School, an excellent education is about much more than academic success. Our aim is to continue to develop fully rounded young men by providing them the very best experiences and opportunities.
We place great emphasis on learning outside the classroom at Hitchin Boys’ School and seize every opportunity to get the boys out into the real world.
Much valuable work is done outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in clubs & societies which meet during the lunch hour and after school. A Homework Club is open every day of the week in N4 and is supervised by a member of staff.
Instrumental music lessons are taught to a large number of students and evening concerts take place every term.
School Trips
School trips are organised by many departments during both term and holiday times; these include foreign exchanges, Science, History and Geography field trips, Modern Foreign Languages trips, Art gallery visits, and Design & Technology industry visits.
Past destinations have included trips to China, Iceland, Spain, Costa Rica, Japan, New York and Malaysia, not to mention Rugby & Hockey tours to Paris and Canada and the annual school Ski Trip to Austra. Photographs of these exciting opportunities can be viewed on our School Gallery.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a non-competitive, internationally recognised program designed to encourage young people to develop positive skills and to try new challenges. It is open to all students.
The award scheme helps young people to gain essential skills to successfully navigate adult life: independence, team-work, problem-solving, resilience, confidence, respect for their community, an appreciation of their environment and is highly regarded by employers and universities. DofE is a life-changing experience, providing a pivotal building block for young people’s futures.
We offer the Bronze award to Year 9, the Silver award for Year 10 and the Gold award for Year 12 students.
School Productions
Every February, the school presents a drama production involving large numbers of pupils from all years. Recent performances have included "Spamalot", "Cabaret", "The Wedding Singer", "Sweeney Todd", "Young Frankenstein" and "Lucky Stiff". Here students not only have the opportunity to act on stage, but also be part of the backstage production team involved in lighting, audio, props etc.
Extras
Students are often entered for national and local competitions, including Rotary Youth Speaks, Maths Challenges, Science Crest Awards, Rotary Technology Challenge, Young Enterprise, F1 Race for the Line and the Quadcopter Challenge.
