Student Leadership

The aims of Student Leadership at Hitchin Boys’ School are to help our students to build relationships and enable others to make a difference in our world.

It is a shared process of building a stronger community, improving the way things are done, developing better relationships and showing compassion for others. This is key to a deeper student engagement and enables our students to participate in the sort of leadership opportunities which prepare them for life in modern democratic Britain and a global society: a society where we value equal opportunities and one in which a variety of beliefs and opinions are heard.

At Hitchin Boys’ School, there are countless opportunities every day for our students to practise their leaderships skills, for example, leading parts of lessons, assisting their form tutor, helping to run clubs and workshops, charity fundraising, Sports Leadership and taking part in the ever-popular Duke of Edinburgh programme.

Leadership Opportunities

We offer a wide range of leadership roles so all students can find a way to contribute:

  • School Council – elected representatives who give students a voice in school decisions.
  • Prefects – role models who support behaviour and younger pupils.
  • House Captains – motivators who lead their houses in competitions, assemblies, and events.
  • Peer Mentors – trained leaders who provide support and guidance to fellow students.
  • Eco & Charity Leaders – students who champion sustainability, fundraising and community projects.

How to Get Involved

Leadership roles are open to all students. Positions are filled through elections, applications, or nominations. Training and mentoring are provided so that every student leader feels supported and able to succeed.
