GREAT GCSE RESULTS 2026

Here at HBS our GCSE results show that we are a School for Boys with Serious Ambition, this year the percentage of grades in the Strong Pass of 5 or above has risen to 70% and in that bracket 20% of all grades were either a 9 or an 8. For context Nationally the average percentage of grades which are 7+ is 22%, this Year HBS’s numbers were 36% (a third of our grades were in old money A or above)
 

All here are hugely proud of this Year’s cohort who have through determination, diligence and effort surpassed their nationally expected trajectory. There are many individual stories of strength in the face of adversity and flourishing despite very significant challenges and today, for us, was a moment to reflect on how great it is to be a Hitchin Boy.

Headmaster Mr Bennett, said, “Our focus here has never been on the numbers, although they matter, our focus is on helping each boy to feel known for who they are today but most importantly who they can be tomorrow and helping them to find their purpose and significance in the world. Throughout their journey with us here they have shown that there are infinite ways to find success and each boy who has given of their best selves has been astonished by their capacity, as have we.

I commend each boy and their parents for whom this has been no mean feat at all, as a parent of a child receiving their GCSE grades today I know this all too well. Equally I am very grateful to the teachers who have worked tirelessly in helping these boys find their personal best."
