Ofsted 'Exceptional'
"I am delighted to finally be able to share with you the Ofsted Inspection Report for Hitchin
Boys’ School following its publication today. I am immensely proud of this outcome and our
thriving community. The report recognises the strengths of our school, our achievements
and why it is ‘Great to be a Hitchin Boy’.
We were one of the first schools nationally to be visited under Ofsted’s new inspection
framework, introduced last November. Under this framework, schools are no longer given a
single overall grade; instead, they are assessed and rated across seven areas. The highest
judgement of ‘exceptional’ is awarded very rarely and only where practice is of the highest
national standard and where other schools can learn from it.
We are delighted that the inspection team judged Hitchin Boys’ School to be at least ‘strong’
in all areas, and ‘exceptional’ in four of these (Inclusion, Attendance and behaviour,
Leadership and governance, Personal development and well-being).
As you will see from the attached report, inspectors found a school where boys feel safe,
attend and behave well. Boys are supported to achieve their very best academically and
socially; ‘Pupils do not just succeed, they excel’. Inspectors recognised the strength of our
community and I would like to thank boys, staff, parents and carers for their continued hard
work and support each and every day."
